Tour Duchenne Itinerary

Cyclist Need

All cyclists must bring the following:

  • A cycling helmet (Rental bicycles will have helmets provided)
  • Cycling Atire (jersey (we should have tour jerseys but not in hand yet!), shorts/tracksuit, light rain gear (but forcasts is for sun!)
  • 2 replacement bicycle tubes (Rental bicycles will have tubes provided and have kevlar coated tires)
  • A water bottle
  • Small bag (labelled with your name) to be brought with Race support cars (Do not include valuables, we will not be held responsible for them)
  • Label your bicycle on the cross bar for easy storage and distribution (make water proof please)
  • Cycle Deposit Paid (€250)

N.B. All cyclists must have a helmet before they can begin. Support Vans will cater for drifting cyclists.

IMPORTANT: Anyone with a pre-existing medical condition must make it know to the organisers prior to commencement of the cycle to facilitate co-operation with ambulance services that will be supporting the peletons on both days.

 

Days Schedule

 Thursday 10th Sept All cyclists requiring transport of their bike to Galway must drop bike to drop off point after 6pm (Contact John or your group contact for this address)
 Friday 11th Sept
09:30 Cyclists Meet for a quick "orange!" at O'Connels Bar (Beer garden weather permitting)
Saturday

09:00 Meet at the brand new NUI Galway Sports Hall for breakfast and introduction

09:30 Distribution of Jerseys, Bikes and Plan for Day 1

09:45 Welcome to "Tour Duchenne" by John Gorman

09:50 Start of "Tour Duchenne" by Padraic McCormack Fine Gael TD (Galway City)

10:00 (Sharp) All Riders Depart for Athlone in the direction of Loughrea on the N6 (Via University Rd through to Headford Rd)

All Riders and support cars will stay together at slow pace out of Galway until FrenchFort

Lead Peleton - Lead Rider: David Gorman - Pace Speed 25km will begin from Frenchfort
Tail Peleton - Lead Rider: John Gorman - Pace Speed 18km (Trailers will be assisted by support van to rejoin peleton)
12:00 Lead Peleton enters Loughrea and breaks for drink and fruit for 15 minutes at the Topaz Service station on the Dublin road

12:15 Lead Peleton Departs Loughrea in direction of Balinasloe
12:30 Trailing Peleton Enters Loughrea and breaks for drink and fruit for 15 minutes at the Topaz Service station on the Dublin road

12:45 Trailing Peleton Departs Loughrea in direction of Balinasloe

13:45 Lead Peleton arrives in Balinasloe - Break for Lunch - Gullanes Hotel on Main Street

14:15 Tail Peleton arrives in Balinasloe - Break for Lunch - Gullanes Hotel on Main Street

15:00 Both Peletons depart for Athlone (via old dublin road)

17:00 All cyclists finish for day in Radisson Hotel on Northgate St Athlone (via Dublin Road and Grace Rd and along river - For a long deserved swim/relax)

19:00 "Tour Duchenne" Dinner in the Radisson Hotel

09:30 Introduction to the day and Plan for the day

09:45 Distribute Bikes

10:00 Both Peletons Head For Moate on the N6

      Lead Peleton 25km pace at Bushfield on N6

      Trailing Peleton 18km pace at Bushfield on N6

12:00 Both Peletons Break for Drinks in Kilbeggan Square (center of town)

12:15 Depart Kilbeggan on N6 towards Dublin

14:00 Both Peletons Break for lunch in Kinnegadat the Hilamar Bistro

15:00 Depart Kinnegad for Kilcock

16:30 Both Peletons regroup at Ford Service Station (beside the canal) and depart Kilcock

17:00 Both Peletons finish at the NEW "Mantra" venue in Maynooth

17:15 Finish Reception in Mantra (Welcome from Emmet Stagg TD)
